how to scan the photo contained by the jpeg/jpg formate??
you can scan it and later save it as jpeg format
You inevitability a scanner. Many multi-function printers have a scanner built-in.
Nowaday, most scanner can pick up as jpeg/jpg format. If your scanner don't have this. Then you can store as tiff and use other software to convert it to jpg(such as paintshop/photoshop)

if u r scan through any 'image editing'software like photoshop, afterwards it will be easy for u to make a contribution the format name.
this is the pedestrian area if it is photoshop (File - Import and select ur scanner name).
or scan the image near what ever u have and swing the format throgh any image editing softwares or anyother pictographic softwares.(photoshop, gimp, paintshop pro, corelreaw, illustrator, free hand, flash, fireworks and etc)
